John G. Shedd Aquarium

The John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago sparks compassion, curiosity and conservation for the aquatic animal world. Home to 32,000 aquatic animals representing 1,500 species of fishes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, birds and mammals from waters around the globe, Shedd is a recognized leader in animal care, conservation policy, education and research. We advocate fiercely at the local, national and international levels for policies that will preserve and protect the most vulnerable species. Shedd’s scientists conduct research at the aquarium, in our own backyard of the Great Lakes and around the globe to better understand animals and their habitats so that we can build management strategies and conservation solutions to protect and restore biodiversity.
